Understanding the Anointing
The anointing is one of the most powerful and meaningful concepts in the life of faith. It speaks of God’s presence, His empowerment, and His purpose working through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. In my teaching on the anointing for KLU, I focused on helping believers understand that the anointing is not simply a feeling, a title, or a moment of spiritual excitement—it is a divine empowerment that equips us to live and serve according to God’s calling.
Throughout Scripture, we see that the anointing marks people for a specific purpose. Kings, prophets, and leaders were anointed as a sign that God had chosen and equipped them for their assignments. However, the anointing was never about personal status or recognition; it was always connected to responsibility, service, and obedience.
A key lesson about the anointing is that it comes from God and must be stewarded with humility. It is not something we use to elevate ourselves above others, but something we receive so that we can bless, encourage, and serve people. The true evidence of the anointing is not only spiritual gifts or outward demonstrations, but also transformed character, love, faithfulness, and a willingness to follow God’s direction.
Another important aspect of the anointing is preparation. Before many people in Scripture stepped into their calling, they experienced seasons of growth, testing, and development. The anointing does not remove the need for discipline and maturity; instead, it works alongside our commitment to grow and become effective vessels for God’s work.
As we seek to understand the anointing, we must remember that it is ultimately about relationship with God. It is not about seeking power apart from Him, but about surrendering ourselves to His will and allowing His presence to work through us. A life marked by the anointing should point people back to God and reflect His love, truth, and purpose.
My hope through this teaching at KLU is that every person would recognize that God has a purpose for their life and that His empowerment is available to help them fulfill that purpose. The anointing is not reserved for a select few; it is an invitation to walk in partnership with God, serve others faithfully, and become a vessel through which His presence can be revealed.
When we understand the anointing correctly, we move beyond seeking an experience and begin embracing a lifestyle—one of surrender, service, and spiritual impact.
